1773

Boston Tea Party

In 1773, a conflict broke out between the thirteen colonies and Great Britain. A group of settlers, unhappy about the direct taxes (on sugar, stamps, tea) introduced by the British Parliament, staged a revolt. Disguised as Indians, they threw overboard into Boston Harbor the cargo of tea from three ships. This event was the start of the process that resulted in the independence of the United States in 1776.
