The anamorphisis proposed by the Cité de l'économie
will show you the world in a way you may have never seen it.

Select the indicator of your choice at the top left of the screen
and then click on the 'Run the animation' button.

The surface of each country on the map then becomes proportional to the chosen indicator.
Thus, two countries that have the same value for this indicator
will have the same surface after transformation.

For some indicators, you can follow the evolution of the map over time by clicking the ► button that appears at the bottom left of the map.

The indicator currently selected is:
"Mobile phone subscriptions per 100 inhabitants, 1990-2014"

This indicator measures the number of mobile phone subscriptions per 100 inhabitants.
Mobile phone use initially developed in the United States and Northern Europe, then rapidly spread to the rest of the world: from less than 1 subscription per 100 inhabitants in 1990, there was almost one mobile phone subscription per person on average in the world in 2014 (96 subscriptions per 100 inhabitants).
Disparities remain however between continents and between countries in the same region. Thus, in 2014 in Africa, there were 78 subscriptions per 100 inhabitants; 109 in the Americas; 130 in Europe (including Russia); 93 in Asia; and 106 in Oceania.
The countries of the North have the highest rates of mobile phone use.   Find out more
