The anamorphisis proposed by the Cité de l'économie
will show you the world in a way you may have never seen it.

Select the indicator of your choice at the top left of the screen
and then click on the 'Run the animation' button.

The surface of each country on the map then becomes proportional to the chosen indicator.
Thus, two countries that have the same value for this indicator
will have the same surface after transformation.

For some indicators, you can follow the evolution of the map over time by clicking the ► button that appears at the bottom left of the map.

The indicator currently selected is:
"Number of deaths of children under 5 per 1,000 births, 1980-2015"

This indicator measures the probability per 1000 births that a newborn baby will die before reaching the age of five.
Between 1980 and 2015, the number of deaths of children under the age of five decreased almost threefold, with 43 deaths per 1000 births in 2015.
While the number of deaths in African countries has fallen sharply, it remains the highest in the world, with 83 deaths per 1000 births. By contrast, in North America, the European Union and Japan, the number of deaths is among the lowest, with fewer than 5 deaths per 1000 births.
China has seen one of the biggest falls: the number of deaths decreased sixfold to stand at 11 deaths per 1000 births in 2015.
Infant mortality is particularly high in African countries.   Find out more
