1945 - 1946
Creation of a social security system and nationalizations in France
Implementation of the economic program drawn up by the French Resistance. After France’s Liberation, a social insurance system (covering in particular sickness, old age and family) was set up and private companies were taken over by the State (especially in the transport, energy and financial sectors). The Banque de France, over which State control had already been strengthened in 1936, was nationalized.
